Question:
Are custom designed homes a better quality home than homes built from pre-designed house plans?
Answer:

No! Custom designed homes and homes built from pre-designed house plans each have specific advantages, but either can be built to a high quality.
The advantage of a custom home is that you can have it designed to your exact needs and budget. It is also specifically designed for your site. This is even more important when your site has unusual characteristics.
The advantage of pre-designed house plans is that they can be acquired for a fraction of the design cost and design time of a custom home.

Question:
Can I be assured that the house plan I purchase will meet all building codes?
Answer:

No! House plans are built to meet most building codes, but regardless of who you purchase your plans from, no pre-designed plan will meet all building codes without some customization. It is always recommended that you seek the assistance of a local architect, designer or qualified builder to verify design loads, site conditions and other building code issues.

Question:
Can I purchase a house plan and make changes to it?
Answer:

Yes! If you purchase a design plan from Milwaukee Craftsman LLC you are granted a limited license to modify, revise and/or complete the design as you see fit. We can also provide you with an electronic CAD file of the design to assist your designer in making the modifications. The Original design will remain the property of Milwaukee Craftsman LLC, and cannot be published, marketed or distributed without our consent.

Question:
What is the best way to find a good builder?
Answer:

The best way to find a good builder is through word-of-mouth. You can also get a listing of builders by contacting your local builder's association. Once you have found a group of 3-5 prospects, contact them for references and a list of past projects. Be sure to check their references and look at their work. Good builders are always proud to show-off their work. The final test in selecting a builder is to interview them. If possible, meet the person who would be in charge of the day-to-day construction of your home. He or she is the key to the success of you project. When selecting a builder you not only need someone who is qualified, but someone you feel comfortable with and trust.

Thanks again,
